Do You Give Away Your Children’s Old Toys To Make Room For New Christmas Toys?
Every year I go through my son’s toy boxes and give the ones he doesn’t play with anymore to our local charity. It makes room for his toys he gets for Christmas and his birthday.

What a generous thing to do! I used to go through my kids toys every 6 months. The things they didn’t play with or they outgrew were given to other families. Happy Thanksgiving and an early Merry Christmas to you!
yes, every year my daughter and i sit down a month before christmas and sort through her toys, i am honest with her, she knows they are going to needy children for christmas and does not mind because she is involved in it.. the first year i did it she knew every toy that i had taken and was upset.. from then on she was ok with it as she was involved, it teaches them kindness, sharing, and understanding how to declutter.. all good things…
I do the same thing….it is nessecary. If I don’t do this every year than the toys are out of control and the kids don’t know what they have because there is SOOOOO much of it!!
Absolutely! This is a hard time for a lot of families. I always go through my daughter’s toys and donate her gently used things. I also shop the clearance aisle and see what new toy I can donate. With all of the recent recalls though I haven’t seen any place to donate yet. I wonder if McDonald’s still has a toys for tots box????
Sometimes.
The ones that they really loved, which have sentimental value, I put away in a box in the loft for (hopefully) their children to play with. My parents did this, and it’s been lovely watching my kids enjoy toys which I remember loving as a child.
That’s so weird, cuz I just did this yesterday. My son turns one on Thanksgiving, and I know he’ll be getting a lot of toys, so when he fell asleep last night, I went thru his toys, boxed up the ones he doesn’t play with anymore, cleaned the ones he does, and my husband took it to Salvation Army today. I’ll definitely be doing this every year, if not a few times a year!!!
Yes, that’s fantastic, and I hope your son goes with you, to experience the joy of sharing, when you take the old toys to charity.
yes i do. any toy that still works and is in reasonable condition i take to the salvation army store or the st Vincent DE Paul store, places like that. they are happy to get them, i even take bikes the kids have out grown, clothes, shoes that are still OK. it’s a waste to throw it all away.
I do exactly the same thing. It is unbelieveable how many toys end up at the bottom of the toy box when they belong with a set or something that has its own container or box. Plus if give you time to weed out all of the happy meal garbage toys. lol I don’t know of a local charity to give to but I think you have a great idea going. I usually save them for a yard sale and sell them for basically nothing. I think I’m going to research someone local, I’m sure there is a kid out there who would love a great toy that is no longer played with. Great idea! Thanks!

YES! most definitely, if you keep the toys like I’ve seen some of my friends do with their children they just get stacked up, and you end up looking like a pack rat, a great place to get rid of toys at is a place who will actually buy them from you.
if he doesn’t play with them anymore and they just lay around, no harm no foul. getting rid of the old to bring in the new, less clutter, and you always have room for new things
